Shakti Women's Empowerment Festival
Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd September 2018

The aim of the festival is to Explore, Celebrate and Promote women's empowerment and to bring active awareness regarding the strengths of women in our society today, while at the same time supporting a local programme that is empowering women in rural India.

The format of the Festival will include a Friday evening with a presentation of WEIV’s work in India and a musical concert, plus a Saturday programme including forums/workshops/talks on specific topics as detailed below, followed by an evening of Indian classical dance themed around Women’s Empowerment.

8:00 - 9:00am - Yoga by the sea with Grace Benn

10:00 - 12 noon - The Art of Expression Forum
with Jenni Cargill-Strong, Laurel Cohn, Liat Sokal, Catherine Marciniak and Karena Wynn-Moylan.

Open up to your inner artist. Join a story-teller, a dancer, a writer, a film-maker, a musician and a visual artist to explore the power and revelation possible through the Art of Expression

1:00 - 2:30pm - Women for Environmental Justice Forum
with Jan Barham, Nan Nicholson, Sue Higginson, Annie Kia, Mary Gardner and Sandra Heilpern with Storyteller Jenni Cargill-Strong

Be inspired by stories from women who have been on the front-line of the Environment Movement and explore how you might be further moved to nurture Nature.

3:00 – 3:30pm - Fulcrum – Finding balance
'empowering women through theatre'

4:00 - 5:30pm - Women for Social Justice Forum
with Delta Kay, Deb Pearse, Ella Goninen, Melanie Lotfali, Tamara Smith and Wendy Royston with Storyteller Donna Jacobs Sife

Explore the social environment and learn about initiatives that women are creating to make the world in which we live a more equitable place for us all.

7:30 - 9:30pm - Indian Classical Dance featuring Karma Dance from Melbourne
